Before you start. Fixes the encoding and the column separator. It cannot stop Excel converting 1/2 to a date once opened; import the file through Data, From Text/CSV for that.

Step by step

Drop the CSV onto the page, or press Choose a file.
Choose comma (United States, United Kingdom) or semicolon (most of Europe).
Press Rewrite and open the result in Excel.

How it works

The file is parsed, then written again with a byte-order mark so Excel reads it as UTF-8, with Windows line endings, with every field quoted, and with the separator you choose. A cell that Excel would run as a formula (one that starts with =, @, + or - and is not a plain number) gets a space in front so it stays text; the result says how many.

Why do accents show as strange symbols in Excel?

Excel assumes an old Windows encoding for a file without a byte-order mark. This tool adds the mark.

Why does the whole row land in one cell?

Excel uses the separator from your Windows region settings. In most of Europe that is a semicolon. Pick semicolon here.

Will leading zeros survive?

Not by double-clicking; Excel still guesses types on open. Import the file with Data, From Text/CSV and set those columns to Text.

Is the file uploaded?
